ALE Career Requirements
ALE-Seal.jpgApplications for ALE special agent trainee positions are accepted on a continuous posting basis.

Applications remain on file from one recruitment time period to the next, so applicants will not need to reapply between postings.

ALE has high employment standards for its agents, who:

  1. Must be a responsible and law abiding citizen of the United States with high moral character and personal integrity.
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  3. Must have a four-year degree or an advanced degree from a resident college/university certified by one of the six Regional Accreditation Associations.
  4. Must have, or be eligible for, a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
  5. Successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation including contacts with references, employers, co-workers, close personal associates, etc., and review of driving record, credit history, criminal history, and service in the military.
  6. Successfully complete a pre-employment polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and urinalysis drug test.
  7. Successfully complete pre-screening fitness assessment.  Cooper fitness test will be used for assessment.  This includes, flexibility, one minute of sit-ups, one minute of push-ups and 300 meter sprint.
  8. Accept employment under two (2) year probationary status, which includes successful completion of the ALE Special Agent Academy, approximately six months in duration.
  9. Accept permanent assignment anywhere within North Carolina.
  10. Accept temporary assignments anywhere or anytime.
  11. Accept assignments requiring irregular hours; day or night, any day of a week or holidays.
  12. Accept assignments requiring undercover investigation.
  13. Accept assignments requiring overnight travel possibly over extended periods of time.
  14. Must be willing to carry and use a firearm.
  15. Must be willing to use deadly force, if warranted, to protect his or her life or the life of someone else. (Must be willing to take a person's life should circumstances dictate.)

Automatic Disqualifiers

  1. Irrespective of jurisdiction, if you ever committed or been convicted of a felony or any other crime that you could be sentenced to 2 years or greater.
  2. Refusal to submit to a comprehensive background investigation, credit check, submission of fingerprints, pre-employment polygraph, psychological testing and urinalysis drug screening and a pre-employment physical fitness assessment.
  3. Illegally sold any drug at any time in your life.
