Requests ABC Commission to Pull Licenses

RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Public Safety Alcohol Law Enforcement has requested the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission to revoke the ABC permit at Mickey’s Bar and Grille, 5121 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, and two other nightclubs following the arrest of 14 employees and patrons May 16 on drug charges. Agents have arrest warrants for 14 other employees and patrons.

Local complaints about the clubs prompted a six-month undercover investigation that culminated with ALE agents, Fayetteville police officers and Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies entering Mickey’s nightclub Friday evening. Of those arrested, five were identified as drug traffickers.

ALE Agents also made simultaneous arrests at two other area nightclubs, 22 Klicks on 3109 N. Main St., Hope Mills and the Crows Nest on 4351 Chickenfoot Road, St. Pauls, where five other people were arrested. A man identified as a primary supplier was arrested at the Coliseum Inn, Fayetteville, and his hotel room searched.

Special Agent in Charge of ALE’s District V office in Fayetteville, Jason Locklear, said, that undercover agents at Mickey’s purchased drugs from every employee except the owner during the operation. “We bought from the manager, we bought from the security guards, we bought from the adult entertainers, from the cook, the dishwasher, the security guards, the person working the front door, the clerk.”

“ALE’s primary focus is on ABC permitted establishments that are the source of criminal activity like the ones targeted Friday night,” said DPS Secretary Frank L. Perry. “We can’t have safer communities without putting an end to establishments that allow drug trafficking. We’re on a mission, and working with our law enforcement partners, and the ABC Commission, we intend to continue targeting permit holders who willfully engage in criminal activity on the premises of ABC permitted establishments.”

More than 270 charges were filed in the raids, 174 of which were felonies:
