ALE Charges Pending After Shooting at Illegal Bar Leaves One Dead, Others Injured

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY – Three charged by ALE after fatal shooting at illegal bar.

A January 25th violent brawl and shootout between attendees of a birthday party held at the E.E. Odom Civic Center has left one person dead, four others injured and three people facing multiple charges. Just before midnight, deputies with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office were flagged down by concerned citizens to find dozens of people gathered at the Civic Center, 221 Craige Street in Gaston, NC, which was set up as an illegal bar with a door cover charge and alcoholic beverages for sale.

Special agents with NC Alcohol Law Enforcement, along with NC State Bureau of Investigation, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, and Roanoke Rapids PD joined Northampton County Sheriff’s deputies to investigate the shooting and the source of the illegal alcohol.

The ALE investigation determined mother and daughter pair Tracy Lynn Davis, 45, and Jessica Janee Davis, 28, both of Northampton County had rented out the Odom Civic Center for a friend’s birthday party. Keyshun Boswell, 22, of Halifax County, purchased the alcohol sold during the party – a direct violation of NC Alcoholic Beverage Control laws. None of the three took appropriate security measures to ensure weapons were not brought into the party.

Tracy Lynn Davis, Jessica Janee Davis and Keyshun Boswell have been charged with selling alcoholic beverages without an ABC permit.

ALE’s 109 specially trained agents have the authority to arrest and take investigatory action for any criminal offense. Their primary responsibility is the enforcement of Alcoholic Beverage Control laws and state lottery laws. ALE is a branch of the State Bureau of Investigation.

Further charges related to the shooting are expected.
