SBI Special Investigations Unit Investigates Shooting Involving Agent in Fayetteville
Raleigh, NC – On Sunday, July 16, 2023, special agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI) Special Response Team (SRT) were called to assist the Fayetteville Police Department with taking an armed suspect into custody who’d been firing at neighbors and officers and was barricaded inside of a residence located at 349 Desmond Drive in Fayetteville. As SBI agents were getting into position to relieve the Fayetteville Police Department, the individual, Patrick George Pavletic, 61, fired again at responding officers and agents. An SBI special agent returned fire striking Pavletic. Pavletic was transported to the hospital for treatment and has since been taken into custody by the Fayetteville Police Department. No officers or agents were injured.
The SBI’s Special Investigations Unit is now investigating the officer involved shooting and pursuant to standard operating procedure, the SBI agent has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. As with every officer involved shooting, the case will be fully investigated and reviewed by the District Attorney.
No additional information is available at this time.
