RALEIGH -- A woman accused of practicing unlicensed dentistry in her Charlotte home, possibly for years, has been released from jail on bond according to the State Bureau of Investigation.
Susana Larreta Peralta, 62, was arrested by agents Thursday evening following a short undercover investigation. The SBI initiated this investigation on Peralta two weeks ago upon a referral by the North Carolina Dentistry Board.
“We moved fast on this case because it is a public health issue,” said Special Agent John Keene of the SBI.
During a search of her home, police allegedly found numerous dental tools and instruments. Those items were seized along with seven vials of the non-controlled prescription drug Xylocaine which is a dental anesthetic.
She was charged with practicing dentistry without a license, obtaining a prescription drug without a prescription and dispensing a prescription drug without a permit.
Peralta was released from the Mecklenburg County Jail on $5,000 bond and she is scheduled to appear in Mecklenburg County District Court on April 7.
Alcohol Law Enforcement, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Stanly County Sheriff’s Department and the N.C. Dental Board assisted in this investigation.
