SBI Internships
The SBI Intern Program allows students to learn how a state investigative agency functions. The program supplements classroom learning with practical experience.

Depending on their major, background and interest, students can apply to one of several internship opportunities. Applications from a variety of undergraduate disciplines are considered.

Application Deadlines -  (applications should be received on/before deadline and NOT postmarked by)

  • Fall semester applications are due May 1
  • Spring semester applications are due October 1
  • Summer semester applications are due February 1

All internships are unpaid, full-time positions. However, an intern's immediate supervisor may be able to take into account a student's class schedule.

Candidates applying for an internship with the SBI MUST:

  • Be a responsible law-abiding citizen with high moral character and personal integrity.
  • Be enrolled in a four-year degree program at a college or university and have completed their sophomore year with a Grade Point Average of no less than 2.0 in a 4.0 scale.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or any other serious crime; undergo a criminal history record check with favorable results.
  • Maintain a favorable credit history demonstrating responsible fiscal management and ability to live within means; undergo a credit check with favorable results.
  • Have a basic working knowledge and understanding of word processing computer programs.

  • The application should be completed in full and signed.

SBI Internship Waiver Form

  • The waiver should be completed and notarized.

Please include the following items in addition to the application and waiver forms:

  • Résumé and list of three references with updated/reliable contact information.
  • Letter of interest. Include your reasons for wanting to participate in the program, ways you can contribute to the section, your career plans, college and community activities, honors and awards.
  • College transcript in a sealed envelope. The transcript or envelope should be affixed with the seal or stamp of the school's registrar.
  • Copy of current driver’s license (both front and back).
  • Interested applicants should work through their department chairperson or student advisor and must present a written recommendation from academic or school personnel.  You may include any other letters of recommendation as well.
