Case Description: On Sunday, November 4, 2007 at approximately 12:15 a.m., a black male suspect with a shotgun approached three employees in the the rear-parking lot of the Sagebrush Steakhouse Restaurant, located on 1562 Yadkinville Road in Mocksville at Exit 170 on Interstate 40 eastbound in Davie County.
The suspect shot and killed employee James Michael Jones. The suspect then took a female employee hostage at gunpoint and tried to gain entry into the business, but he was unsuccessful. During the shooting of victim Jones, the other employees escaped from the suspect, ran from the scene, and flagged down a N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper who was passing by the restaurant.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and was last seen walking east towards the ramp at exit 170 off Interstate 40. Investigators believed a vehicle was waiting there for the suspect.
The suspect was wearing navy blue coveralls, black ski mask, black gloves, and black boots. He was described as a black male in his 20s-early 20s in age, approximately 6' height, 170-200 lbs., with a light complexion, almond-shaped eyes, and a wide nose.
