Polygraph Program
The SBI Polygraph Team is a part of the Computer Crimes Unit and assist in Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) types of cases, however they also conduct polygraph examinations in all types of criminal investigations for the SBI and at the request of local or federal law enforcement.  Additionally, they conduct pre-employment examinations for SBI employees and for company and campus police throughout the state.

The Polygraph Team consists of one Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) who oversees all aspects of the team, including supervision, training, and quality control.  There are five (5) Special Agents assigned to the Polygraph Team and they are distributed geographically across the state.  There are also four agents who are currently assigned with various primary job duties in other sections, but are experienced polygraph examiners and support the polygraph team in a collateral duty capacity.

The NCSBI Polygraph Program became federally accredited in 2013, by completing the Polygraph Law Enforcement Accreditation (PLEA).  Agencies which obtain this accreditation must meet and maintain specific standards, a level of expertise that few other agencies across the country have achieved.  Given their experience and knowledge, agents assigned to the Polygraph Team serve as PLEA board members, are NC Polygraph Association officers, assist with instruction and audits of other accredited agencies, and teach nationally as well as internationally.
