The SBI Polygraph program conducts polygraph examinations in criminal investigations.
The program has eight field agents, each conducting polygraph examinations within their assigned districts and as assigned throughout the state.
A criminal specialist functions as the polygraph coordinator and oversees polygraph training, quality control, equipment, and other non-supervisory areas within the unit.
The polygraph unit also conducts screening polygraph examinations for all sworn and non-sworn applicants for the SBI.
In September of 2013, the NCSBI Polygraph program became a federally accredited unit when they completed the Polygraph Law Enforcement Accreditation. This accreditation is held by very few agencies within the United States. In order to receive this accreditation the NCSBI must meet and maintain certain standards. One of the standards is 100% quality control of all examinations run by each polygraph examiner. Due to the high-level, quality work needed to obtain the PLEA accreditation, the SBI Polygraph program serves as members of the PLEA Board, Inspection Teams and Instructors.
