On Friday, September 7, 2012, at approximately 11 a.m., University of North Carolina student Faith Hedgepeth was found dead in an apartment she shared with a roommate.  She was 19 years old and was last seen alive several hours prior to the discovery of her body.

Hedgepeth was a native American, a member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe.  She grew up in the small town of Hollister on the Warren-Halifax county border.  She was in college studying to be a pediatrician for her tribe.   She touched the lives of everyone she met.  

The Chapel Hill Police Department requested SBI investigative assistance which included a crime scene search, hundreds of interviews and DNA tests.
