(FAYETTEVILLE) -- The Fayetteville Police Department requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) this afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM after a body was discovered in the Cape Fear River. A group of scientists conducting water tests made the discovery. The recovery of the body was delayed due to fallen trees and debris resulting from past hurricanes. The body has been sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and identification. Agents from the SBI’s Southeastern District are currently investigating the case. No further information is available at this time. Additional updates will be released on the NCSBI.gov website, through press releases, and on our social media platforms.
