On February 27, 2025, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was requested by the Currituck County Sheriff's Office to assist with a sexual assault investigation. Following interviews and the execution of search warrants, evidence was collected that led to the identification of a suspect in the case. The investigation identified Paul Pellini, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Nurse Practitioner, as the suspect. Consequently, he was charged with one count of second-degree forcible rape.

During his initial appearance in court, Mr. Pellini was ordered to be held in the Currituck County Jail on a bond of two million dollars. A judge also ordered him not to enter his practice without a law enforcement escort. This case is currently active and ongoing. The case has been referred to the New Hanover County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.  No further information is currently available.  Any additional information will be released on the NCSBI.gov website or our social media platforms.
