Fifteen agents had 19 weeks of training in areas such as conducting homicide and drug investigations and criminal law. They also had 70 hours of physical training and made 25 trips to the firing range at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg.
Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Thomas H. Lock of Judicial District 11B will administer the oath of office to the agent trainees.
Agents will be assigned to seven of SBI’s eight districts: Coastal, Northeastern, Southeastern, Capital, North Piedmont, Northwestern and Western. Two agents are assigned to the Diversion and Environmental Crime Unit and one agent is assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit.
The SBI provides expert criminal investigative assistance to local law enforcement agencies when requested by police, sheriffs, district attorneys or judges. The agency also has original jurisdiction in cases such as drug and arson investigations, election law violations, gambling, child sexual abuse in day care centers, computer crimes against children and crimes involving state property.
