(Lumberton, NC) - On December 20, 2024, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Southeastern District, Lumberton Police Department (LPD), and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) began investigating the homicide of Brandy Nicole Olson of Lumberton, North Carolina. The incident occurred at the Walmart located at 5070 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton. The two suspects were quickly identified as Ezekiel Burden and Brian Campbell of Lumberton, North Carolina.
On December 23, 2024, LPD and the SBI arrested Brian Campbell and charged him with accessory after the fact to a felony at the Lumberton Police Department.
On January 21, 2025, Ezekiel Burden was arrested at a Greyhound Bus Station in Chicago, Illinois, by the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force after an informant provided the whereabouts of Burden. Burden is currently being held in a Chicago jail pending extradition back to North Carolina.
In the pursuit of justice, the SBI utilized multiple internal assets: Special Agents from the Southeastern and Coastal Districts, the Special Response Team (SRT), the Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), and the Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAAC) Intelligence Analysts. The SBI conducted interviews and searches, issued subpoenas, served search warrants, and deployed numerous specialized electronic surveillance techniques.
The SBI, along with the Lumberton PD, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), United States Marshals Service (USMS), and Chicago Police Department have partnered in the investigation and arrest in this case.
