(CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC) - On March 10, 2025, a trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) was working in Cumberland County when he attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver of the car fled from the stop and fired several gunshots at the trooper. The NCSHP subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Robert Levon Yarboro on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. 

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation's (SBI) Criminal Apprehension Team was requested to assist in locating and apprehending Yarboro. In the early morning hours of March 21, 2025, the SBI's Special Response Team, in collaboration with the Criminal Apprehension Team, safely took Yarboro into custody. He was then turned over to the NCSHP, who transported him to the Cumberland County Detention Facility.  Please contact the NC SHP or the Cumberland County District Attorney for further information about this case.
