(ROBESON COUNTY, NC) - On Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 7:24 PM, the Queheel Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 111 Maranda Road in Maxton, NC. Upon arrival, responders found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. The Maxton Police Department then requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) to conduct an investigation.
After the fire was extinguished, the remains of a child were discovered inside the residence. These remains have been sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. At the time of the fire, there were three other individuals in the home, and at least one person received treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. Their current condition is unknown.
The SBI is investigating this case, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Currently, no further information is available as the investigation continues. The SBI will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available.
