SBI Agents Arrest Former Chadbourn Police Chief on Dozens of Charges

 

Raleigh, NC – Special Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have arrested the former Chief of the Chadbourn Police Department, William Anthony Spivey.  The SBI began an investigation into misconduct allegations at the request of District Attorney Jon David on March 2, 2021.  On Monday, April 19, 2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Special Agents with the SBI’s Coastal District Office arrested William Spivey, 35, in Fair Bluff without incident on 73 charges.  After going before a magistrate, Spivey was issued a $665,000 secured bond and booked at the Columbus County Detention Center.

31 felony counts alter, steal, or destroy evidence

31 felony counts embezzlement by public official 

4 felony counts trafficking opiates by possession

4 felony counts trafficking opiates/opioids by transportation

2 counts obtaining controlled substance by prescription misrepresentation

1 count obtaining controlled substance by fraud
