A pharmacy technician had his first court appearance on drug trafficking charges following his arrest Monday, July 27, by agents with the State Bureau of Investigation.
Two agents with the SBI’s Diversion and Environmental Crimes Unit arrested Dustin Lee Holloman, 31, of Supply, on three felony counts of embezzlement of a controlled substance from a Drug Enforcement Agency registrant, one felony count of trafficking in opiates and misdemeanor possession of Schedule II and Schedule IV. Holloman was a pharmacy technician at Walgreens Pharmacy in Shallotte.
Holloman was placed on a $100,000 secured bond.
The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy contacted the SBI to investigate the suspected violations.
“The number of pharmaceutical thefts such as this one are unfortunately increasing,” said Donnie Varnell, special agent in charge of the DECU. “Illegal drug trafficking is of no benefit to anyone – users or suppliers – and the SBI will continue to make arrests in cases like this one.”
