Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation arrested a Burke County man yesterday for making threats aimed at the Sheriff and other members of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
04FT00000SN0John Anthony Reeves, 33, of Hickory was charged with one felony count of threats against executive, legislative, or court officers. Reeves was arrested and taken into custody a short distance from his residence in Hickory. U.S. Homeland Security Investigations task force officers assisted with the arrest of Reeves.
Reeves was given a $35,000 bond before being taken into custody at the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility. Reeves was scheduled to have an initial court appearance today.
On Wednesday, District Attorney David Learner, of the 25th Judicial District made a request for the SBI to investigate the threats made against Burke County Sheriff Steve Whisenant and others associated with the Sheriff. The 25th Judicial District serves the counties of Burke, Caldwell and Catawba.
During 2015, Reeves had threatened Sheriff Whisenant and other officers employed by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on numerous occasions.
