Raleigh, NC (August 22, 2019) - The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) along with other law enforcement agencies have made an arrest in a recent case involving five law enforcement car break-ins.  The break-ins happened between July 29, 2019, and August 4, 2019.  The agencies affected by the break-ins include the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department and Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Jermichael Junior Hunt, III, 21, was arrested on August 15, 2019.  At the time of arrest, Hunt was in possession of stolen items to include weapons, safety equipment and clothing from the police vehicles.  Hunt has been charged with two counts of possession of a stolen firearm and received a $20,000 secured bond.  (Note: The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office will have his mug shot).

The recovered weapons belong to multiple law enforcement jurisdictions.  Because this is an ongoing investigation, we are not able to release the specific types of weapons recovered.

This is a multiagency investigation made up of the SBI, Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Longview Police Department, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Because there is more property to be recovered, anyone with information is asked to call the SBI’s Northwestern District Office at 828-294-2226 or local authorities.  No additional information is available at this time.
