The State Bureau of Investigation is releasing the names of two Ashe County Sheriff deputies who responded to a disturbance call July 8 when Dallas Arthur Shatley of Shatley Road, Jefferson, was shot and killed: Christopher Lee Roten is a 10-year veteran of the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office and Joshua Franklin Hopkins is a five-year veteran.

The investigation is ongoing and the SBI will not be releasing further details at this time. Additional information will be available after District Attorney Tom E. Horner reviews the investigation.
